My Week in Haiku-week 5

Propane, pigs, and mud. A tampon on wheels. And COVID.

What a week! Allow me to give you the abbreviated version.

The excitement began with an early morning call from my sister. She was in the hospital having some heart medication adjusted. But I knew about that. The surprise was that she had received a call from the alarm company because the alarm was going off at her house in the woods.

I am responsible for the care and management of that house. It’s her second home, so she isn’t always there. So, I take care of it for her. She pays me for my time and work, which is great because I need the money in a big way.

Anyway, I throw a coat over my jammies, put on a headband and some fake Uggs, jump in my car, and head to the house. It takes a little less than an hour to get there.

When I arrived, I looked around outside, and everything looked fine. I went inside, and it was freezing in the house. Specifically, it was 47 degrees. The thermostat was set at 65, so something was definitely wrong. After checking out a few things, I realized that the propane tank was empty, so the house had no heat.

The alarm had been activated because the cold temperature in the house caused the adhesive that holds the alarm sensors in place to weaken. One of the…
